While deployed to Iraq as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot for the Illinois Army National Guard, Tammy’s helicopter was hit by an RPG, resulting in the loss of her legs and partial use of her right arm. Tammy never expected to be involved in politics, but after a year of recovery, she quickly became an advocate for her fellow soldiers and started working to make sure the Department of Veterans Affairs was doing all it could to take care of our nation’s heroes. In the Senate, she’s focused on common-sense solutions to rebuild our infrastructure, protect our environment, and grow America’s manufacturing jobs while supporting minority-owned small businesses.
